When the owner of the site makes a well, he, of course, counts on tasty and clean water. But expectations are not always met, sometimes the water is cloudy, with an unpleasant odor and sediment. To avoid this situation, you can easily equip do-it-yourself bottom of the well.

In order for the water to be clean, there is no need to install an expensive purification system, you can use a long-tested method - arranging a filter from ordinary natural materials such as sand, gravel, stones.

It is possible to determine which bottom filter is needed and whether it is needed at all during the construction of a well by digging a pit. If the bottom is clay and a source beats from it, then you do not need a bottom filter. On the contrary, it can be harmful by blocking access to water.
Now, if the clay at the bottom is soft, then the water will become cloudy. In this case, it is necessary to lay 20 centimeters of a layer of large gravel, so that the bottom does not erode. For a sandy bottom, a bottom filter is necessary so that the sand does not rise and does not balamut water.

Bottom filters differ in the way of laying, they are direct and reverse. Direct filters are used if it is necessary to install a shield from floaters or loose clay at the bottom. Return filters are used where there is a calm channel and a sandy bottom.
The main task of the direct filter is not to purify water as much as to prevent erosion of the bottom. In this case, a layer of stones or large gravel is laid, and then another layer, only of fine gravel. Each layer of 20 centimeters, so that the total thickness of the filter was about half a meter.

The task of the inverse filter is to prevent the sand from rising upward, as well as to protect the bottom from debris if it gets into the well. An inverse filter is made in this order. First, the bottom is cleaned, then a layer of washed river sand is laid, gravel or small river pebble is placed on top of it. The last top layer is made of stones measuring 3 - 5 centimeters or large gravel. Each layer should be 15 to 20 cm thick.

Over time, the filter may become clogged with sludge or clay, so at least once a year it must be cleaned. Stones and large gravel should be removed to the surface and washed, and the sand layer completely replaced. After cleaning, everything is laid as it was before.
