How to make a joiner's vise

  1. When sawing all the parts for the jaws, glue them together. Then cut to length.
  2. For standard 1/2 inch pipe clamps, a 22 mm hole is required. The best thing install stop block and drill all 4 holes at the same time. So that the front jaw glides better and does not bend much, you can make the hole horizontal. The reason the horizontal groove will work is because it allows you to tilt the front jaw from left to right when you pull out the tube. You just need to use larger holeThis will give more space above and below the pipe to allow the front jaw to move from top to bottom when only the upper edge of the vise is clamped.
  3. The base will be held with clamping screw handles. Make a slot by first drilling two oversized holes. For the holding screw handles, make a 5 cm cube, drill a hole and pass through it carriage bolt.
  4. Immediately before assembly, chamfer the posterior edges of the posterior jaw and the anterior edges of the anterior jaw.
  5. Then screw the back jaw to the base with screws.
  6. After you have drilled two holes on the desktop, push the handle down to pull it up T-nut.
  7. Final assembly. The rear lips of the pipe clamps are attached to the rear lip using double-sided tape. After that, drill two holes in the rear lip of the clamps and fasten them with screws.

Your joiner's vice is ready. Four layers of plywood provide ample support and barely bend. Pipe clamps hold well. With virtually no pressure on the clamping screws, you can really work on any part, and she won't budge. In addition, there is no need to buy an expensive set of equipment for the “professional” Moxon vice, when you can make one that performs its functions for much less money.
