As I said above, creating an entrance door made of metal is not the easiest thing.Therefore, more tools are needed than to create a conventional wooden interior door.

Namely, you will need:

1. Metal corners and profiles;
2. A sheet of dense, sufficiently strong steel;
3. Construction metal loops;
4. Handle and lock for metal doors;
5. Drill;
6. Construction foam;
7. Grinder with a disc for metal;
8. Veneer;
9. Welding equipment;

Also, in order to avoid mistakes, it is necessary to make, even a simple one, a diagram on which you will see all the nuances of the assembly and the necessary sizes are marked.

To create the door frame of this model of the front door, the author used a 40 by 40 millimeter square pipe and a narrower pipe (20 by 40 millimeters) for the door leaf.

In order to make it easier to assemble a metal door, the best thing is to make some supports on which the door leaf will be created, for example, you can make small goats of bars and bricks, it all depends on your convenience, the main thing is that the support is smooth, respectively, expose you need everything in level.

After everything is ready and you have collected the necessary set of tools, you can get to work. Namely, first you need to prepare the pipes to create the door frame: mark the required dimensions of the vertical and horizontal pipes, and saw off the details in size. There is another important thing that distinguishes two types of doors, namely:

The entrance metal door is from some interior wooden door, and indeed from any interior and this thing is a door frame. It is she. Indeed, when creating a regular interior door, the door frame is made at the last moment, adjusting it to the door leaf, and when creating a sliding interior door, the door frame is not required at all. But when you make the front door with your own hands, and even of metal, then the door frame should be given special attention.

I will say even more than that, in this case, the doors do not finish the creation with this element, but on the contrary, it all starts with it. And only then the door leaf adjusts to the box.

I can’t say that creating an entrance metal door does not require experience, because it’s not so, if you undertake to create a door from metal, then you need at least some abilities and experience in working with welding and welding equipment. Assembly instructions for the box and web for a metal entrance door:

1. First of all, you need to create the above metal box. To do this, you had to pre-prepare 4 square pipes of the size you need, as I said above (two pipes of a smaller size (horizontal) and two larger (vertical)). Before you weld these parts to each other, carefully check the level of evenness of the welding and the construction angle with the angle between the crossbars, it must be strictly 90 degrees.
2. To create the canvas, first make another, inner, square box, it should be smaller than the outer box, so before welding, it is better to check in advance whether the parts fit in the outer box. If everything fits, then you can weld the pipes to each other. When you have created such a box, the next step is to weld the crossbeams inside, for greater strength of the future canvas.
3. Insert the inner box into the outer one. Then lay a thick sheet of steel on top of them, which will need to be cut to the shape of the outer box. Make all the necessary markings, then proceed to cut the desired shape of the sheet. Weld the sheet to the inner box. Thus, you received a cloth for a metal door.
4. The next step is to install the loops. Carefully weld the upper wing of the hinge to the door leaf, and the lower to the door frame. Make sure everything is smooth.

The creator of such a model of a metal door did a little different than the authors of all the above doors did, he immediately installed the door frame in the doorway, and then proceeded to create the canvas. By the way, at the expense of tricks, I’m all talking about the same stand, the collector of this front door used a table made of the same square metal pipes that I had welded myself.

You have already made a door of strong metal, equipped it with a high-quality and durable door lock, hung it on powerful steel hinges, and, it seems, the door is standing and reliably protecting your home ... but something is still missing.

What can a do-it-yourself metal front door not protect you from? By cold. Yes, it is from him, because metals have very good thermal conductivity, therefore, if it is cold outside, then the metal will also have the same cold temperature. This, of course, works in the opposite order, on a very hot summer day everyone wants to take refuge in their cool house, but the house will not be cool if the metal door is not insulated. How to insulate a home-made (namely home-made, because factory doors are insulated at the factory) metal entrance door?

I’ll tell you about this just now.

The cheapest option for warming the entrance metal door is a method using, you will not believe, polystyrene, yes, it is just ordinary polystyrene that can protect your home and not let heat or cold pass into it. Your door leaf consists of an internal metal box, this box can be as simple in shape as several crossbeams, it can be a little more complicated, as you see in the photographs, it doesn’t matter. The main thing is that it consists of several compartments. And in the shape and thickness of these compartments you need to cut pieces of foam. This polystyrene is secured to the compartments using a mounting foam, which provides good adhesion of the metal to the polystyrene. The main thing is that when gluing the compartment with the door lock, do not fill the lock with mounting foam so as not to spoil it.

But to insulate the door is not all. You need to sheathe your door inside to provide it with a decent appearance. This can be done in many ways, but I suggest plywood inside the front door - this is the easiest and fastest way.

Of course, not everyone can afford to create a metal entrance door with their own hands, and not everyone has the right welding equipment and special skills for this. But, as promised, I’ll tell you now how to make the front door with my own hands, without the experience of a welder. Of course, I'm not talking about a metal front door, but a wooden one!
Naturally, such a door is not suitable for any "fortress", and it will not be so strong (you can’t put such a door in an apartment), but, nevertheless, it can be installed in a private house, or in a house on a private plot, so someone might like this option.

In general, the principles of creating a wooden entrance door are practically no different from creating an entrance door of metal. The door frame is also made, only wooden bars are used instead of square steel pipes. Such a door can also be immediately insulated and sheathed with sheets of plywood. Only in contrast to creating a metal door, the door frame is the last step, not the first. Of course, since it should be a heavy front door, and not a light interior, the tree should be used more carefully, for these purposes it is better to take wood of dense hardwood (oak, birch and others), and not soft coniferous (spruce, fir, pine and others).

The most important thing is that you don’t need to weld anything, there will be no difficulty sawing parts, and some parts can be glued together with glue on wood.
