To begin with, it is desirable to determine why the fence will be needed, for what purpose. A high hedge will protect from wind and dust that it carries, from prying eyes, prickly can scare away unwanted visitors. Wanting to mask the unsightly details of the landscape or simply visually divide the area into zones, either curly, weaving plants are used in the first case, or - for separation - small borders from flowers.

So, hedges are distinguished by height - high (two meters or more). Medium (1-2 meters), low (approximately a meter) and curbs. They are also distinguished by the type of plants they are made of: soft (it is clear that without thorns) and prickly, respectively, of prickly plants. Hedge plants can be planted in one row, two rows, there are generally multi-row.

In addition, some plants without fail need to be cut, shaped, otherwise they simply will not have a look. Such a fence is called formed. Others, on the contrary, can grow freely as they want, only needing sanitary pruning. Such unformed hedges are used in gardens that have a vast territory that needs to be divided. A hedge may include only one species of plant, or may consist of several.

It must be said that each group of specialists adopts its own classification of hedges. Gardeners-practitioners, owners of summer cottages, for example, first decide on the purpose of the future fence, what functions it will perform. Based on this, suitable plants are selected, and as a result a hedge of a certain species is obtained.
