You would really like to make a door for the bath, but you don’t have it at all? Do you live in an apartment or is there not enough space on your site to build a bath? Or maybe there is no money to build a full bath?

If you don’t have a bath ...

Do not worry, there is a way out! You can build a steam room with your own hands right in the house, or at least in the barn, as the author of the master class presented in this fragment of the article did. Unfortunately, in this article I will not talk about how to do this, but I will leave a link to the master class, so read it if you wish. And I will not do this for one simple reason: my today's task is not this, in this article I can only talk about how to make a door for a bath with my own hands, which I will do now.

This door is not just a steam room, it is a wooden door with glass leading to a real sauna! At the same time, it is created very simply. A frame for a door leaf is created from several bars, and a smaller frame for a window is created inside this frame. Then, glass is installed in the inner window frame and fixed with a mounting foam. Insulation is laid inside the door leaf frame itself; outside the door leaf is sheathed with boards. Then all this durable heat-insulating structure is installed in the doorway of the mini-sauna. Honestly, I don’t even know what to explain here, because everything is clear from the photos! This door is a cross between the front and interior doors, and most importantly, everything is done quickly and easily!

Then I said that basically all the doors to the bathhouse are made from a wooden door leaf, but there are exceptions, such as the model described above. Also, the option of a door to the bathhouse, which I will talk about now, is also an exception. You probably already guessed what combines the previous model with this ... namely, their door leaf is made of solid wood!

Is it worth it to make a door out of the array ....Let's figure it out

The advantages of using this version of the door leaf include the fact that you can give such a door any shape, create any design, your imagination is unlimited. Also, many people believe that solid doors are more durable than any other door options, I will disappoint you, but this is a myth. Doors made of solid wood are not so much durable as heavy, a door made of combined materials will be much stronger. It is not profitable to create a door leaf with your own hands from an array, in the sense that you have to buy this array, and it costs almost as much as a whole door, but you still want to save, right? It is also worth mentioning that the door leaf from the array is too prone to deformation, therefore, it is not worthwhile to install such a door in the bath. But it will take a little less time to create it, but ask yourself the question: “Is it worth it?”, Of course, it's up to you to decide.

Of course, it’s best to create a door for the bathhouse for someone who has at least some experience with wood, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t have such experience, you can still create a door to the bathhouse, thanks to this article, you’ll have to spend a little more time, but the main thing is not to rush, everything needs to be done step by step, carefully checking everything in order to prevent mistakes. If something is done wrong, then there may be drafts undesirable in the bathhouse, the heat will go outside, and the pastime in your bathhouse will not be so pleasant. This is how important the door to the bathhouse is.

So, how to make the door to the steam room?

To do this, you need very little material - several boards and bars. Let's analyze all the actions using the example of this model.

First of all, it is necessary to determine all the necessary dimensions of the door leaf (width, height, wall thickness), and then create the door frame. Usually, in the manufacture of wooden doors, the door frame is done at the last moment, but in this case, the author first created the door frame, installed the door leaf assembled in advance on the hinges, and then already placed the whole door in the doorway, which is his right. But it will be much easier to do this: to make all the necessary measurements, create door pattern, on which to note all sizes, given the thickness of the door frame, create a door leaf. And only then we need to make the door frame, install it in the doorway and then fix the door leaf in it on the hinges.

And in other matters, okay, so be it, I decided not to bother you with waiting, since this is not a difficult part of assembling the door and you won’t have to talk about it for a long time. So be it, I will explain. But before I start talking about how to make a door leaf, I need to find out one detail regarding its creation, namely - material selection. I would not recommend just turning over this part of the article, because the material you have chosen will greatly affect the future of the product.

The door leaf is the most important part of the door - it must be strong, dense and it is the door leaf that must isolate the inner space (in this case, a warm bath room) from the outside world (in our situation, a cool dressing room). So the materials you need to choose to create it correctly, and indeed, to create a bath wooden door as a whole, you need the right materials, since the humidity of the room in which the door will be installed is quite high, and temperature differences can be very sharp.

What am I driving this to?

I lead everything to the banal, almost universally known fact, that a tree is prone to deformation, and this deformation is influenced by nothing more than the humidity and temperature changes described above. Due to these factors, not only does the tree warp, it also swells and changes shape, so choosing the wrong material you risk not opening your door at all anymore. So what to do? What to choose?

Everything is very simple, in this case I would advise giving my preference to more deciduous trees (such as: oak, beech, walnut, clear, maple and others) than conifers (spruce, pine, fir, cedar, larch and so on). Why? Yes, because coniferous woods are very soft, yes, it’s easy and convenient to work with them, but the flip side of such a pleasant work is the deformation soon, it’s sad, of course, but what to do is nothing perfect

How to assemble a door leaf for a bath door with your own hands.

So, let's say you have chosen the right material that suits you in all respects, so how do you make a door leaf for a bath door with your own hands? Well, firstly, there are three types of wooden door leaf:

• First view - one-piece door leaf (array). It’s just a pre-cut whole piece of wood, with a shape and size that is right for you.
• Second view - “empty” door leaf. This is a kind of box, assembled from thin sheets of wood, most often plywood, and inside filled with cardboard, the cheapest version of the canvas, is most often found in stores and is mainly used to create interior doors, but not to create a door to the bathhouse.
• Well, the third view - plank door leaf. The best option, in our situation, is not too expensive, strong enough, just made with your own hands, most often used to create bath doors.

That's about the third view, we'll talk now. Why is it used most often to create doors to the bath? Well, firstly, as I said, it has good qualities regarding strength, and secondly, I also mentioned above, it’s cheap, thirdly, it’s easy to do it yourself, and fourthly, it has a classic design, just right for a real Russian bath, in general, what you need!

You probably already understood what it is, and indeed you saw it in the photographs above. These are several boards interconnected and, in addition, fixed by other, short transverse boards (most often two or three), as well as another diagonal board (this is already less common).

There are several ways to connect the boards, but I will talk about the most convenient - spike connection.

This option of fastening the boards is quite common, and not in vain, because it provides a tight interaction of the boards. The essence of the method is quite simple: a spike is made on all inner boards from one side end, and a groove is cut out on the other, only a groove is cut out on one of the extreme boards on one side, and only a spike on the other, so the boards are tightly attached to each other and glued with building glue on wood, after which they are fixed under the press for a while, until the glue dries. Very convenient, very simple, very high quality! Although it is necessary to tinker a bit with cutting tenon grooves, but such a door will serve a long service.

How to make an opening in a log house for a door?

Important!!! Since the log house “walks” constantly, an ordinary door frame will not withstand a changing load. There is a special technology, according to which only vertical details are fixed on the log house, which eliminates its deformation. The casing box is attached to the frame of the bath only vertically

How to quickly make the door to the dressing room

There are situations when it is necessary to replace the door to the dressing room very quickly, since the old one is no longer to be used (it has deteriorated for some reason). If you are in exactly this situation, then this part of the article is for you! Using an example of a specific model, I will try to explain how to quickly make a door leaf for a bath door and replace it.

This situation simplifies the assembly, since, in theory, you already have the box from the old door ready and you have hinges on it, if so, then it’s good. You just need to create a new door leaf that is exactly the right size, the keyword here is “EXACTLY”, since there should not be any gaps or bumps that contribute to insulation damage (below in the article you can learn how to insulate the door for the bath, but about this later). So, in this case, the proverb “measure seven times - cut one” will fit us like never before, and in the most literal sense. Measure the doorway, taking into account the dimensions of the door frame, and record your measurements. It is best after measuring the materials for the manufacture of the cloth to attach them to the doorway or old door leaf, in order to clarify everything.

After you have done this, you can start creating the door frame. It’s better to create a door frame for the board, for the reasons I have indicated above, but in this case, if you want to make the door as quickly as possible, the spike connection option will not work, so the creator of this model did the following:

He sawed the boards of the right size (or rather, took the old materials he had and adjusted the boards to the desired size) and simply put them tightly together, and connected it all with a Z-shaped structure, using two transverse boards and one diagonal, about which I said above, that's all!

And the work will be faster if you have a working surface, and it is desirable that the blanks on this surface were canopy, because it is not very convenient to saw on the ground, but the author turned out to be smart with this model, he used an old car tire for the purpose of the working surface, you can also do something similar.

Note:

Even when you create such a door for speed, do not neglect sandpaper, it is dangerous to use a door with a rough surface!

Do-it-yourself door insulation for a bathhouse.

I told you about how you can make and install a door to the bathhouse with your own hands, but during all this time I did not mention what I said at the very beginning of the article - about thermal insulation. Namely, about it, after all, not a single bath door can do without it, whether it is the front door to the bath house or the door to the steam room, it must in any case have good heat-insulating qualities.But how to achieve this, and especially if the door is whipped up, as in the above example? Calmly, now we will figure it out.

There are many ways and options for insulating a bath door, there are also several options for a material that can be insulated, so that in order not to get confused in this, I will analyze only one option, using an example of one door model.

The creator of such a model insulated using thick sheets of extruded polystyrene foam (in the common people of the foam). The sheet used by the author has a thickness of 2 centimeters, he used such a thin insulation so as not to make the door too thick, since then it will be difficult to insert a lock, but if you do not need a lock, feel free to take a larger layer. Best of all, of course, if you make the door for the bath with your own hands, insulate it immediately before hanging on the hinges.

To begin with, on the back side of the door leaf, he created a frame of 2 cm thick blocks of wood, as well as polystyrene sheets that were screwed to the door leaf with screws, then this frame was divided into three “windows” using two short transverse bars - jumpers. Styrofoam is inserted into these “windows”, which can be fixed with mounting foam. A boardwalk is applied over this construction.

Door for a bath made of wood with your own hands.

Let's look at another interesting model of a wooden door for a bath made by yourself. This version of the door is made of pine (coniferous species of trees, which I did not advise you to use),

but its creator himself claims that it is better to use linden for a bath door

if the temperatures are too high (this is already a valid note, since linden is just hardwood). The point here is not only the swelling of the tree at high humidity, but also that the pine, like any other coniferous wood, literally begins to flow at high temperature. Of course, before working, the wood material must be well dried (not lower than 12%), for the reason that I have already called you more than once during the writing of this article - the tree is prone to deformation. And besides, dry wood is much easier to process and has, of course, a lower mass, which greatly simplifies its installation.

The creator of this model, before assembly, depicted for himself a diagram with the intended dimensions, as I advised you to do in order to clearly understand the task of manufacturing a bath door and avoid mistakes.
