Here is such do-it-yourself pond in the country house zz gabionov, a special design consisting of a metal mesh filled with stones.

This small pond that you see in the photo is designed for 490 liters. Diameter: outer 146, inner 126, height 45 centimeters. To fill the nets, 300 kg of stones went.

The stove bench is at the same height as the pond, also made of gabions, it is part of the structure, 35 centimeters wide, 100 long. Another 200 kilograms of stones went to the stove bench, so a total of about half a ton of pebbles is needed.

To do this, you need to make or buy a finished metal mesh, for a pond, the cell size should be 2.5 by 10 cm, for gabion under a bed, you can take larger than 5 by 10 cm. Then you need to buy material for waterproofing of the appropriate size, now these are sold, not problem. You can use a very dense film, but it is not reliable. Still need boards, tarps and naturally stones, preferably more or less the same size, for a bigger bed, for a smaller pool.

How to assemble a grid, you can read a separate instruction, there are different ways, but believe it, nothing complicated.

When the design is ready, using the level check that everything is level. When dealing with water, this is especially important.

Then we load the stones. It is necessary to lay evenly, layer by layer, so as not to distort the design.

Then it is necessary to protect the inside from leakage. We cover the purchased waterproofing sheet and fasten the clothespins to the side. This may not be enough if you will actively use the pond as a swimming pool. Therefore, it is desirable to cover several layers of waterproof tarpaulin.

We fill the pond with water, put a wooden bridge, a small pillow. We swim, sunbathe and relax)))
And if you make such a table and chairs from gabions, since you will still be messing around with a net and stones, it will be absolutely wonderful.

To decorate the garden, you can make such a mini-pond of gabion. Its height is 30 centimeters, diameter 40 cm, designed for 38 liters. Beautiful construction and no earthwork required. It weighs only three kilograms, without stones, of course. So you can put it in any corner of the site, and if necessary, simply disassemble and transfer.

Or such an option, lower, but wider.

Generally gabions were originally designed to protect against floods and prevent river erosion. If you have a reservoir with fluctuating water levels, in any case, shallowing and erosion of the coast will occur, so you can reconstruct the pond with gabions. Of course, it’s a time-consuming business, especially if the pond is of a solid size, but later on you can not worry about it. On the left in the photo the pond will look like this after some time, if not to strengthen the bottom and the shore, and on the right, this is the view after reconstruction.
