Privet is a shrub from which it turns out well hedge in a summer cottage. She feels good in our climate zone, especially some of her species, which are easy to pick up.
Privet grows fast enough, can withstand significant temperature drops, however, not very long. Given that the plant is not very demanding on the soil, it becomes clear why privet hedges are so common.
When planning to plant plants for hedges, you should first clearly outline the line along which the green fence will grow. For aesthetic purposes, this line should be strictly adhered to. A rope stretched between two pegs can help, along which a trench is pulled out for planting plants with a depth of 50 - 70 cm or a hole of the same depth, a width slightly larger than the roots of the planted plant.
Before you start planting a hedge, you should stock up enough planting material. This is not difficult to do, you can buy privet in the garden market at affordable prices, as it is usually offered a lot. It is better to purchase bushes packed in a planting pot, or in some container so that the root system is closed. So it is better to take root, and it is easier to plant it.
Bushes should be planted at the same distance from each other, approximately 30-50 centimeters. They should not be too old or young, from 3 to 5 years old - the most suitable age. After planting, the future hedge needs to be watered, so that the soil is well saturated with moisture. Watering is especially important if the soil is sandy and the area is dry.
The next year after planting, it is advisable to trim the privet so that the hedge looks neat from it. Sanitary pruning is regularly performed in the spring. But actually privet tolerates pruning well, forming after it many new shoots. To maintain the shape of the hedge constantly, it is recommended to cut it 3-6 times from May to October.
In the initial stages, a hedge of privet, like any other plant, requires some care, although it is not at all complicated. But as a result of the efforts made, after a couple of years, you can already enjoy the view of your own created green fence.
