Today, hedges play a key role in landscape design. For this purpose, many ornamental plants of various types are used. But I must say that many fans have hedge of common spruce. This plant is a middle strip, adapted to our conditions, and has many advantages.

Spruce is an evergreen plant that will give your site a festive solemnity in winter and a feeling of coolness in summer. Fence from spruce is better to plant on the north side so that it does not obscure the garden, and was protection from wind and snow in winter.
Coniferous fences, not uncommon and not only green, some varieties are painted in blue, yellowish and golden hue. You can make a composition of different varieties, then you get an original fence in a color scheme.

From a practical point of view, spruce is a very good choice. This is a perennial plant that requires minimal care, and also brings healing benefits. Everyone knows about the benefits of coniferous air, which not only heals, but also protects against pathogenic plants through phytoncides. Also densely planted spruce perfectly performs the functions of a fence. Highly bound branches will not allow uninvited guests to enter your territory, and will also provide a good barrier against noise, exhaust gases and dust. Well, there is nothing to say about the aesthetic side of such a fence, how can you compare a hedge with a concrete or iron fence.

It is not difficult to grow coniferous hedges; the main thing is to choose the right plants for planting. Some prefer mature trees to immediately have a ready-made hedge. But there is a risk, as adult plants may not take root, so it is better to buy seedlings of ordinary spruce four years of age. They are cheaper, take root very well and grow actively.

Spruce planting is carried out in the fall in the prepared soil. The ground should be a moist, mushy consistency. To do this, dig a ditch half a meter deep, the width of which should be greater than the root system of the seedlings. The removed top layer must be thrown back into the ditch and add compost or peat. When you are planting seedlings, follow the root neck, it should be sprinkled with no more than 2 - 3 centimeters.

To make the fence dense, make the distance between the seedlings no more than a meter. The first season after planting, you need to take care of the plants - loosen the earth by ten centimeters, remove weeds so as not to interfere with the growth of seedlings, regularly water it. To activate growth, the first three years it is necessary to add nitrogen fertilizers, and before winter, at the end of autumn, add phosphorus fertilizers.

Pruning a plant is carried out a year after planting, with special garden shears in the spring, when the tree grows and regenerates quickly, although it is possible in the fall, until leaf fall has ended. But in addition to cutting, throughout the season you need to remove weak shoots and dry branches, monitor the roots, mulch and weed the top layer of soil.

If you constantly monitor the plant and mow, the hedge will have a well-groomed, neat appearance, side branches will grow better and the lower part of the fence will not be bare. Also, for the purpose of prevention, periodically spray plants with special preparations from pests. Then the hedge will live up to your expectations, and will please you for many years.
