The use of wood as a material for the equipment of wells, although less practical than the installation of concrete rings, but, nevertheless, is still popular. The tree is more environmentally friendly, less prone to mucus formation and then, you can make do-it-yourself well made of woodwithout the use of technology and the involvement of specialists.
For the construction of the well, only dry, high-quality wood is used, because the taste of water will also depend on this. Therefore, in the underwater part, birch, linden, elm and alder are used, that is, trees that minimize a specific aftertaste. Logs in water can last a very long time, about 20 years, but those that are above the water deteriorate much faster, so it’s best to use oak in the upper part. To prevent tanning substances from it, which give the water a bitterish aftertaste, the tree must be starved.
For internal cladding, it is better to use sawn logs, which are installed with a slice inward. Suitable for a well and a beam, by the way, with it it is much easier to do angular dressing.
The laying technique depends on the depth of the excavated shaft. If it is not deep, then the blockhouse can be made separately, and then lowered by a lift into the shaft. But if the well is deep, then this method of installation is not always suitable. In this case, the log house is plucked directly in the mine, setting it to the dug depth, so that two crowns protrude from above. Then make digs on each side and substitute wedges. Then they dig at angles, pick up wedges and plant the log house. Thus, gradually increasing the log house, they advance to the desired depth.
To facilitate the entry of the log house, a shoe with a sharp iron edge is attached to the lower crown, and the width of the shaft is made with a margin of 30-40 centimeters.
The size of the log house is chosen depending on the depth, well, they just look to make it convenient to use the well. The niche between the walls of the shaft and the log house is necessarily filled with dry clay so that external water does not leak into the shaft and does not fall into the well.
